How I got it at Easter 2013
With parts I had lying around and bits donated from my little Zunow
Needs a disc rear wheel to complete the high-speed look I think
I've got a Nitto TT bullhorn bar to fit when I get some retro bar ribbon (yellow or blue?)
I bought it from an old friend of my fathers who used to ride alot back in the day, they used to work together in Perth in the early nineties...it was originally a metallic blue so I went with that for the repaint, although I had a custom blue pearl made up especially...it really comes alive in sunlight, truly electric blue

Frame decals say Omega Cycles, which may have been a local bike shop in the town. Havent counted but I think 36H rims.
Another frame sticker says Made in Japan. Its going to need a fair bit of work to clean up to a presentable state.
The pedals look like they are meant for some sort of triangular cleat but lack any sprung mechanism so I'm thinking straps are required.
I know its hard to give an age without photos (coming when I get home), but would anyone care to guess an age from the gruppo details?

Inside of the cranks around the pedal bolt is the easiest place to look
Do the pedals look like this ?

That be them, minus the metal "toeguard" and straps.Dan wrote:Yup, early to mid 80s. These are the pedals, no??
Hmm! Not a bad find then. Looks like i need to bury my head in the 80s resto thread for a bit.
The quill stem is really interesting, it has an *internal* clamp bolt with a 6mm socket hex drive that you access from behind by taking a screw cap off on the corner of the gooseneck. Never seen that before. Very neat.
Will let you know the crank date code tomorrow.
Thanks for your help fellas

The 600 series had a plastic cap, while dura ace caps were aluminium.trailgumby wrote:Actually its a metal cap.

This was an unexpected purchase/build for me, which all came together in the last fortnight.
After 7 months of cruising around on a cheap Reid alloy road bike, your pals Munga and Dan were instrumental in dragging me into the future (the future being a 1989 SR Sakae Litage frame).
I got the frame from Munga, who reluctantly agreed to sell it to me (not sure how I got away with it - I'm assuming he took the fall for the greater good - one less Reid on the street, and all that).
Picked up the more "modern" Dura Ace 7800 from a friend, who had it conveniently lying around; and the bracciano's were a new purchase.
So, definitely not a complete "retro" bike, but some of the "spirit" of the retro age is in there.
Now! Pictures!

if i knew that my vitus was gunna explode on me three days after selling the litage to you, those would be my pics of my litage.
very impressed with your build, mate. bar finishing school is paying off, i see. minus two points for not cutting the unperforated sections off before starting.
if i was going to be really picky, i'd suggest that those cranks kinda look cumbersome on a slender looking frame like yours, but then, you already know what i think of 7800 cranks in general. 7600 or 7700 ftw!

Yeah, I did that last time I wrapped Fizik tape, must have just slipped my mind in my eagerness to get on the road. It had been sitting there complete, sans bartape, for 3 days.munga wrote: bar finishing school is paying off, i see. minus two points for not cutting the unperforated sections off before starting.
I'd probably subtract some more points for that ugly light, but it was a late afternoon ride and I didn't want to get stuck in the dark.
Took it for a 50 km shakedown this afternoon, very happy so far.

New to this forum so I'd just like to say hi!
I recently sold a two year old Giant Cypress 3. Not my style, so instead I've been looking for a classic Ausssie bike that I can take pride in when I ride!
I purchased a Raleigh Sports last weekend which is in excellent original condition with metallic green paintwork and all decals intact. It is fitted with all Sturmey Archer gear including original headlight and rear hub dynamo. Solid rubber pedals with chrome edging and reflectors. I'd post a photo here but I can't work out how to upload from my desktop!
Can anyone possibly give me some more information on this? I'm led to believe that it's a model DL22 and from the serial number and wikipedia it is a 1969 model. It is still fitted with the original Raleigh tyres which are 26". I'm 5'7" so it's just comfortable for me to ride but I would prefer something a little larger.
So now I'm looking for a 60's or 70's Speedwell or Malvern Star in original condition, minimum 3 speed, without racing style handle bars - pretty much looking for a 'town' bike. I've seen reproduction bikes available that look the part, but there's nothing like a genuine Australian bicycle.
Would anyone know of someone in the Sydney area with something of that description for sale? I've been scouring eBay and Gumtree regularly but still waiting for something period to come up.
Cheers!

Bought some wet and dry and metal polish today for the alloy bits, not so sure how to start on the frame.
It's the frame that concerns me most - hopefully only surface rust. Wire brush?
