80's Vitus Plus Carbone

Postby munga » Thu May 09, 2013 4:54 pm

i bought this on ebay for a fairly good price recently, without knowing too much about them.
when i picked it up, i found it had lived a fairly hard life and the frame had plenty of scratches, mainly around the dt levers and where the front brake caliper hits the downtube. overall though, it was in ok condition, and for the price, i could at least make my money back on the parts if the frame turned out buggered.

i took the frame to a friend in the aviation repair game, and he gave it a once-over, confirming that everything was sound. good enuff fer me, mate!

waiting on some parts (fd, cables, chain) to finish off. will fit some different (light) wheels down the track, but looking forward to riding it!

Good find. Vitus produced one of the earliest carbon fibre frames. I think the Carbone Plus is from 1986-1989. Here's a link to a brochure.

http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/vitus/ ... re%206.pdf

The Vitus Carbone Plus 7 had seven carbon fibre tubes (the rear triangle was also carbon unlike the Carbone Plus).

fd finally arrived, and i fitted my chain last night.
cables and bartape to go!

got my quang on and ordered a gold chain!

kinda.

Image

wipperman connex 10sb black and gold edition.

record 10s was the easy choice, but i've never used a wipperman chain, so i figured why not.

black campag cables and black tape. simple.
cheap tyres are the only thing i kinda regret. that and not gettin' funky with rochelle in yr10 when i had the chance. she was so hot. and cheap too, now that i think about it. remember passion pop? good times..

Illin' !!!! 8)

Where's a good source for Wipperman chains? I'd like to try 'em and have been hearing many good things.

I should add I have been using Wipperman inch pitch chains but they're over 50 years old.

Wiggle for wippermann, although I suspect all the usual suspects have them.

Wipperman are certainly one of (if not) the best. You get what you pay for though ....

That Vitus will come up just nice with a bit of TLC, like in this thread ....

the wipperman was about $15 more than record 10s, so i'm hoping for good things.

the drivetrain will be built to the usual standard, and the frame will be left just as it is.
i hope to get the cables on tonight, and the bartape on tomorrow night.

Reminds me of my Yr.12 pub crawl. A smokin hot girl I had been keen on all year hit on me but I was to drunk to care. I was more worried about getting more rums for my mates....

Haven't we all been there  .

Amanda, drop dead gorgeous redhead with spectacular um eyes. Wasn't til 2 years after finishing school I realised she had been interested, the folly of youth.

(though I did end up wifeing another beautiful lass from high school so all good :) ).
