That's the trick. Easy. No tool necessary.isabella24 wrote:The reason the chain link can be so hard to remove is because normally you have to pinch the links together (ie pinch the 2 plates together) as well as pushing them towards the slots. This way they come apart very easily by hand.

Agree 10 speed. However, it can take a few very frustrating minutes so I purchased a LifeLine Master Chain Link Remover for the cost of joining a mailing list (again) . With a toddler in the house I don't get enough time to mess around with my bike so the tool is well worth the cost. However, I don't take the tool with me on the road because it can be done by hand on the extremely rare occasion I need to (which is never, so far).

Sounds reasonable though. I've got one coming on a chain from Wiggle, I might just keep it as a spare

How would you know that it wasn't broken then?Duck! wrote:Not when it's flown off into the wilderness.
Maybe they hadn't clipped the link together properly in the first place?

I think the idea of the quicklink (inparticular the sram non-reusable one) is for easy, noob proof, installation. Not for all this OCD chain cleaning types, but the resuable ones lend itself well to this.
I have one of those tools, i bought it after I couldnt get the 8 speed quicklink off, I ended up driving a pin out, cause I had 'that' tool. Haven't used the tool yet cause I don't remove chains.
