Someone say shed? Thats my favourite spot. I just had a big clean up of my shed yesterday, problem is, it leaves more space for extra bikes.

Hello, folks.

I'm new here and decided it would be prudent to introduce myself before asking for help. So here goes.

I'm from the Central Coast and like to ride when the weather is nice. I enjoy tinkering with my bikes and have a decent aptitude with them. I also enjoy learning new things. Anyway, I guess that's about it for now.

I have got a very old frame (definitely pre 1960s) that I am looking at bringing back to life. I was going to get it sandblasted before painting, but have noticed that it has a tiny little hinged cap arrangement in the top of the bottom bracket housing. I am told that this is an "oiler" - I assume that it is for putting oil in the BB bearings?

I am a little concerned on damaging it if I get it the frame sandblasted - does anyone have any experience or advice on this?

G'Day Peter, welcome outside.

While it is a shed related issue, it is a very specific one relating to older bikes.

A short thread in the retro section should get you the right answer fairly quickly.
