5min vs 30sec power

Postby ft_critical » Sat May 18, 2013 4:37 pm

Easy question for the power wizards.

What % higher than my 5min power should I expect my 30sec power to be?

I know nothing is easy but,....

Very different systems and thus not very related at all. I dont think their would be a good correlation between them.

Mine is only 183% but them again spent most of the past 6 months only working on threshold and a little VO2max, it was TT season.

It's only a rough range, mainly to emphasise that there is very little relationship between them.

For me this year
30 sec: 665 watts
5min: 369 watts

Nearly a 200% difference for me at 180%

Just to be clear, with those percentages I was simply referring to the fraction 30-sec / 5-min power.
e.g. 950/469 = 2.02 or 202%

I was 225%

but give me a track sprinter and the number will go up fast.

I thought I was a good sprinter and I get.
5min: 400W
30sec: 1050W

Must have to be unfit (aerobically) to get 400%

Are you a specialist match sprint/kilo rider? Or a roadie with a bit of a sprint? Two very different animals.
Put it this way, let me know when you have an 17.x second standing lap.
