What did you do it in? I did it in 12.26. I died very early on on the first climb up, was in granny gear very early. I then pushed pretty hard through the next 3 flatter sections to try and make up the time.

The first straight is pretty tough going, realistically it's harder than the turns but you've already done your dash by that point and it's grind city afterwards. I use a compact with a 23 at the back, I was changing up to 21 and standing to get a rest through the final half of the segment, then back to 23 and sitting. Whatever it takes. I did change down really quickly right to the bottom after bursting away from the group (I don't like having to interrupt my rhythm which is pretty easy following wheels). I think I've gotten tendonitis from the effort, sadly.
I always think with that first stretch that the road engineers have gone as steep as they dare and then they bung in the hairpins to ease things off just a bit. Perhaps originally they sent a team of bullocks up and when they refused to go any further the blasting into the hillside began.

I was feeling much better the other week, although I didn't push very hard at all past the hairpins. I was saving myself in case it got any worse, which it didn't. I was hoping to better it on the weekend but I died on the first bit, I did improve by a second.
I did a reccy of Bellbird in the car mate, it's not for me, whilst i can do Bowen, and I could do Bellbird, the danger of Bellbird just doesn't sit right with me, and if i don't feel comfy on a reccy then it's out Keen to check out your local area down the track though. Be warned, as we enter winter i still do the k's but i go at a more softer hour. ie after 10am. When the tour de France starts i am in full winter mode ie ride after 11am ish lol.. Retirement does have it's advantages

I didn't leave for Katoomba until 9am, I was ready to go at 6.45, stepped outside and then turned around and retreated to the lounge for a little longer! It was 1.5 degrees.
I think early in the morning it should be ok, if its too busy on Bells Line by the time I get there I'll continue on to Bowen Mountain.
I did a wonderful loop out there recently. Went from home(Acacia Gardens), out to pitt town, and out to the sackville turnoff. Then down to Sackville across the Ferry and straight up Bull ridge Rd , to the putty. Then across to the Bell line into Kurrajong. Stopped for pies,mmmmm pies at Kurrajong village, then completed the loop past Bowen(Gave it the up yours as i went past), and then home, approx 130 k's i think on a glorious day. Where i am intrigued in your neck of the woods, is the river run and ferry at portland etc to wisemans, and the short climbs back up to the ridge line etc, to incorporate that part of the loop in the ride i just described. Would be a wonderful ride in the right conditions.
edit, Michael, have a look at this one i did with a few of the lads on Jan 5 this year. My hardest day in the saddle so far, as a climber i make a great chess player

You can also run up Bull Ridge Rd and then turn right towards Putty, there is a nice climb up to Blaxlands Ridge Rd, you can turn around and do the other side back towards Bull Ridge Rd. I'm pretty happy with my progress, I've only had a bike for a few months. Living where I do I don't have any choice but ride up hills.
Edit, just looked at that ride of yours. That's a killer! It's a long road from Wisemans to Mangrove Mountain in a car, I can only imagine how long it felt on a bike!
I'm 100% out for any serious climbing until I visit Mr Hogg next week. The tendonitis in my knee is possibly going to send me to the asylum (I wish I was even joking too) if it doesn't clear up soon. Seems that riding in 34/18 or 19 is the best I can manage on the flat without pain. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
if you can work out a 100-130km ride with every hill in your area i would be interested to come out that way for a looksie, sure i could russle up a few nutcases to join us. . Maybe for a sat in the not too distant future

I set out to do 3 that day, but after the first climb, I was NOT going back...
went for a cruisy ride to BOWEN to recover, then back to granny gear from bottom of bowen.
On the upside i got 3 sec off WARK PB (not that its much but it is something)
When i did 3x last year, i would have been at my absolute peak (where the heck are them legs )
but i do remember struggling and dragging myself home the last 30kms...
10x would be a monster.
27t and i was about to break my shifter looking for more gears... my mtb has a 34T or a 36T i think.. thats prob more suitable, along with a 22T front.
