After a 29er

hey after a 29er, to ride some trails in around my local area, any brands i should stay clear of or look at ?

That's quite a vague question.

I've had a Specialized Rockhopper for about 3 years and love it. I don't do loads of trails but manly urban riding. It's been my best ever bike by far! The new Specialized range look great but there are many many options.

Many people here seem to love Giants offerings but I wouldn't know. Why not go to your local shops and see what they have first and ride a few?

What's your budget and what kind of riding do you want to do? e.g. what are your local trails like.

The local trails range from sandy flat, to bush with the odd rocky patch, obviously going over a rocky patch on hard tail is not ideal, budget around 3k, was looking at the KTM line up as they seem to be a bit different, my old bike is a basic Giant YUKON So looking to update that : )

I wouldn't discount a hardtail, I have one and I love it.

If you are after a dual suspension 29'er around 3k then a the Giant Anthem should be on your list, there are a million of them around for a reason.

Check out Bike Exchange, you can do a search on 29 dual suspension and see what comes up.

I had a beginner MTBer come past me in the race on the weekend with a KTM carbon hardtail 29er (Mtyhos?)to take first in the class and push me back to third on my dually. It's a great bike (lighter than the dually Anthem) and the rider is no slouch either.

The Giant XTC 29er's are pretty useful. I bought a 2012 one second hand recently and it's a very capable bike. If you're a road rider then using your legs to soak up bumps is pretty second nature so I wouldn't discount hard tails. You can pick up a pretty good and newish one for under $1k by watching ebay/gumtree.

Oh, and a hard tail will get you up the hills quicker too.

Yeah i thinking hardtail will be the better choice, or splash the cash to get a dual with lock out rear suspension ?
