XL Bike weights

Postby linds » Fri May 24, 2013 10:07 am

I am interested to hear from people who have 'XL' size bikes ( ie for riders around 190cm or more) about what kind of bike weights are reasonably achievable. I see a lot fo sub 8kg bikes in here but they mostly seem to be small sizes.
thanks

Vitruvian Triad? I've got visions of Leonardo's man with full body tatts and a sword...

- 8.4kg: XL Malvern Star C5, full 105, Mavic Ksyriums. That's as best I can weigh it in full road trim (with bottle cages, spares, pump and Garmin). There's no point weighing it in stripped down mode cause it never gets used any lighter. It wasn't built with intentional weight savings.

- 11.8kg: Gazelle CM AB 62cm, full Veloce, deep-V alloy rims. Again, full road trim which includes Blackburn frame pump. As above, this wasn't built with intentional weight savings.

I could probably get the C5 under 8kg without too much trouble (it's just money!) Getting it to sub-7.5kg would be difficult. No way I could get the Gazelle under 9kg I'd reckon.

Very, very cool looking bike there. How does that frame ride?

EDIT: My Onix is a 57cm (so only L, but close to the thread requirement!) Without pedals, lights, saddle bags, etc it weighs in at just on 8kg. I noticed when trying out saddles that a test one I had (Aliante Kium - just under 200g) was 200g lighter than my current one (about 395g). Cheap spot to lose a bit of weight if I can finally find a comfy one...

And the rear D cable. ;)

Just put a ~$30 charge spoon on my bike, 258g quoted weight, saved me about 150g. (because that's important on a ~14kg commuter). Yet to ride it but they get a few good reviews.

My Litespeed is a 59cm and is ~ 7.3kgs w/o pedals, despite the "clydesdale" Open Pros. The SRAM group is light as are the Easton forks/bars/stem/seat etc.

Nice Oppy! Love that colour. Not that it would ever happen, but I could see AndyP with a bike that colour.

Yeah i'd love a titanium, however that would be N+1 over here. I don't know what road bike I'd have to part with to get one. As it is there's a frame classifying as N..... :D

Not sure who of us needs a new scale.
58cm frane.
6.8kg as pictured with SRAM Red group set and 1kg wheel set with 200g tubular tyres (on my scales).

My Moots is not much heavier with a similar set up.

I weighed my XL Giant Defy Composite 3 on the bathroom scales and I believe it came in at 8.9kg off the rack with pedels

Thanks for the info and pics of these XL bikes-I'm impressed with what is achievable.
I have a (very) entry level carbon framed bike (Verite) with a mainly 105 groupset with new pro lite wheels.
With the clipon TT bars, pedals and computer it is 9.1kg..without these is it 8.3kg.
Im not posting a pic because its not up to the standard of the company in here.

Love the look of that Moots bike!

Hit by truck yesterday.
He turned right through stopped traffic and took me out as I was coming down the bike lane.
Moots completely destroyed and I am waiting for a skin graft on my left calf to fix a gaping flap of skin.
