My ALAN is one of my favourite riding bikes. I just love it. 1983 vintage with a Campy Super Record gruppo.

Thanks frog. It's the result of many years of collecting and refining. I commuted on this ALAN for about a year and I enjoyed every minute of it and It hasn't changed much since that time. All the components remain the same except the seat post. I changed to a Nuovo Record post due to its greater strength.frog wrote:All of Gary F's bikes are my favourite bikes

Times 2356. P.S. I've seen Munga's Alan - one of the nicest builds I've seen in a long time.frog wrote:All of Gary F's bikes are my favourite bikes

thanks for the compliments guys - it pretty much builds itself when you start with nice clean components.
if i could change out the frame for a 2cm larger one, i'd be a happy camper.
it just rides so nicely. i was no-hands-ma at 60+ km/hr and it's just so stable.

it's missing the crankbolt dustcaps, and the dropouts could do with a polish, so let's say it's 95% complete.

i'm sure someone more pedantic could bring out the details a bit more than i have. the rear derailleur was a genuine 30sec rub with the autosol cloth while it was on the bike. you can see the grease on the chain. there's brake dust around the calipers, dirt on the dt. it's nice but it's no show pony. anyone want to swap frames?
i will certainly buy another one day.

It looks like an old one Scott. My guess is that it's a 70's version. I understand the early ones had issues with bonding but at that price it must be an attractive proposition. Postage is a bit 'jaw dropping' though.singlespeedscott wrote:Here's a new one for those who are keen.

I recently bought what was advertised on fleabay as a Vitus 979. Pics showed what I thought were bizarre Peugeot badges stuck on some time in it's life but clearly the frame & forks were same as Vitus 979 Duralinox . 3 minutes googling after taking delivery I verified it as a Peugeot PX10DU, apparently sold only in 1982/3.
Looking at this old 2011 listing with some great pix of a pristine PX10DU http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rennrad-Peugeot ... K:MEWAX:IT isn't my bike but it's pretty close, certainly the alu frame colour seems to have been exclusive to Peugeot. Mine has a mishmash of parts (Simplex rear mech, Modolo Speedy brakes/levers, Zeus hubs, etc) and I'm in two minds what to do with it right now.
So beyond that little tale, here's your chance to tell me what the heck the diff is between an ALAN, a Vitus 979 and my new Pug, let alone what I could do with it.
