Heard about it early today ... a nice honour to be bestowed on Cadel.

That is brilliant, he's a true champion. How about a knighthood though?? Brad got one and he actually had some team help getting to the TdF finish line. Oh, yeah, forgot ... Cadel's just from the antipodes

Well-deserved, and he responded to the news in typically modest fashion. I hope the OP won't be offended by me pointing out that it was an AM, not an AO .

I voted for him last year for this. Still don't know who he is but that yellow Tshirt he was riding in the the photo they used looked pretty and he had a matching helmut.

Got to agree about the man being a champion, deserves the medal, However as a point of order I don't think Australia hands out knighthoods these days, nothing to do with the British, just that it is not an Australian honor anymore.RobertFrith wrote:That is brilliant, he's a true champion. While I believe you can be offered one by the UK if you have done something good for them or the world (honorary if you are not a Commonwealth citizen, say Irish) but the Oz Govt doesn't hand them out for services rendered, the equivalent is an AO or an AC I believe.
Cheers

I imagine Cadel should be worthy of at least MBE, like some other noteworthy people such as Derek Bell MBE (the lengendary sports-car race driver).
We are still part of the Commonwealth - so it still stands, thankfully.

Be careful...
His "nothing to see here, lets move along" response when asked about the impact of Lance Armstrong's doping on the future of cycling, which mirrors all the other known dopers' publicly expressed sentiments, rings serious alarm bells in my mind.
Add to that his competitiveness in the tail end of the doping era, when just about all of those around him have a doping track record in some way... well, I am having my doubts that he was/is squeaky clean.
Not saying he doped, I have no evidence, just that he failed come out with a clear condemnation of doping troubles me, as though he was unwilling to offend anybody and break omerta in case they became motivated to air some dirty laundry.
Hope I'm wrong.
