TUESDAY NIGHT FOOTPATH RACING (allegedly) - M7 C/way 6.15pm
Postby leximack » Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:23 pm
after todays ride with Spiro and Keith we thought it would be a good idea for a regular Wednesday Night ride along the M7 cycleway.
We met today at 6pm at the sunnyholt road entrance and we went to the m4 and back, 35ish km i think. The plan is to do this ride weekly (as an addition to my regular commuting), some weeks we may go further (to eliz dr or to prestons), some time may go shorter, depends on what we feel like (and you can turn around at any point if you wish)
We went tonight so no ride this wed but will go Wed 9th as the first ride.
All welcome, just post here if you are coming so we can meet up, you can start at other entry points or whatever, just post as to where and we will keep a look out.

Hey Don,
Just be careful as our club does a wednesday night ride along the bike path....but in the opposite direction to you (from Prestons - out and back).
I don't do that ride because the competitive spirit seems to have a strong presence with the 20 or so riders that attend. Not really the place for racing with that many people. A meeting of two bike groups at speed in opposite directions sounds nasty.
Cheers mate.
Kev.

Kev - what time do they leave Prestons and how far do they go.
If we know roughly were we will meet then we can be a tad more cautiuos in that area,
I think we would have 4 or 5 riders max so dont think it will be a majoor problem with some common sense on both parties.

The lighting is generally pretty good. Sometimes there are sections where the lights are blacked out. There will also be a detour off the cycleway onto the streets of Dean Park because of the land slip near Richmond Rd. I would definitely recommend having one to at least attract the attention of oncoming riders.how good is the lighting on the pathway. ive got no front light.
A rear flasher is also a good idea. You can buy a basic light kit for under $50. It's cheap insurance!
Spiro.
