Umm... What just happened there??? The road was open on one side until the cyclists looped back around???

And the car looks like a Lamborghini. Whoops.

For vimeo, you just need to put the ID number inside the tags and can leave out the rest of the URL

It's a Chevy volt from the looks of things. Lamborghini would never lower themselves to such an ugly standard. At least I hope not.

It seems in the US, left means right and vice versa, but the riders were not from the US so when the dude in the stripe shirt said go left, they uh, went left.......
There an explanation in this news version:
http://media.theage.com.au/selections/c ... 83211.html

Notice the sherriff getting all matrixy trying to dodge riders.

Bad course, no separation enforced between oncoming riders, that's a recipe for disaster. They needed to either have a physical barrier to make sure that riders stayed on the correct side (fences or even traffic cones), or heavy fines/disqualifications for riders crossing the center line into the oncoming lane. They were pretty painful looking crashes, I hope everyone was ok.

You're right, it is a Chevrolet Volt (can pick the brand and 'Volt' from the video footage).

Still, I think it looks similar in the back section to the Lamborghinis I've seen out on the road:

But I'm not a car lover - unless it is a fully electric sports car like the Tesla- then we're talking. :P

so what exactly happened... to me looked like the course lady in the middle got cleaned up by a rider and for some reason there was a car on the course, then chaos ensued...?

Youre eyes are much better than mine then. Even on a 24 inch monitor it still only comes up as a tiny little video for me :|

Edit.... make that computer skills, not eyes. I missed the full screen button

Bit of a mystery. I have no idea why the course official is lying face down on the ground. I imagine the car hit a rider travelling in the same direction. Nice try at a bunny hop by that rider, unfortunately it wasn't entirely effective. :(

Can't believe they didn't have cones dividing the course when it is a hotdog cicruit! Riders are nearly all the way across the lane whan coming towards the camera necessitating the marshal standing in the middle of the road...

Rider (back marker after camera panned away) hit marshal.... car leading the riders had to take evasive action to miss rider who hit marshal... the vid answers the rest from there!

They seem to be racing on the opposite side of the road I was expecting, as in Americans drive on the RHS (not the main bunch sprawling across the road in the first 20secs). Is this a normal thing for them?

Messy riding, mass disqualifications and fines if this happened in one of the local crits not to mention the pre-race lecture on the following weekend.

I didn't click full screen... It was small sized when I picked it out - as it appears when you first open this thread.

I thought the person lying on the road was the cyclist but was wondering why he wasn't wearing normal racing attire. If that was the marshal, where is the cyclist who hit the car??? His bike is clearly lying there mangled.

Marshal is seen clearly in the middle of the road prior to getting hit.

You very briefly see the legs of the rider in front of the car when the camera pans back left.

The course designer should be flogged with half a dozen brake cables, could've either run some seperation OR flipped the course so that the riders wouldn't be on the wrong side (US) of the road in the overlapping section but chose neither.

Not too impressed with the overall organisation either. Response to the incident, hmmm and there's no way I'd stand in the marshals shoes without a cone 10m each side of me and a loud vest even if I had to provide me own.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Kudos to the rider trying to bunny hop the marshall. Pity he missed the landing, he almost pulled it off.

That whole situation could have been so much worse. What atrocious course setup. :x
