Hi,
I am planning a ride round the island of Taiwan in August (2013).
I have done most the way to sydney from melb and melb to adelaide last year so understand what is required for endurance fixed gear cycling. see http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 7&start=25" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I understand road and conditions will be different in Taiwan. Has any cycled the coast at all ? What are the hills like on coast.
Also anyone that does long rides fixed in melbourne are you keen to catch up for a ride. I can handle up to 150 km in one day max.

The 80 years old Chairman and Founder of Giant bicycles did the loop with gears. He can do it, so can you on a fixed. He did have a Lexus luxury limo behind him though.

Got back from a 3-week stint wondering around Taiwan with the better half.
Majority of the West coast is relatively flat. However, it gets hillier when you head North, East and extremely hilly in the centre part of Taiwan.
I would recommend that rather riding a fixie, ride a bike with gears. As you might encounter something like this:
1.2km vertical climb without a resting spot.
Also, the weather in Taiwan especially August is extremely humid. Take plenty of money and water as they have 7-11 in every corner.
Furthermore, look out for semis, trucks, cars, scooters, pedestrians and drunk drivers as not many people stick to road rules.
Other than that you will have a great time there!!
