Guys,
Is it related between backpain and sprocket ?
I used 39-17 on 5-8% climb, will it cause me a backpain ?
Sometimes I feel pain on my neck but I ignored it,
Thanks

To be honest no but we need a lot more info about what level you're at and how you train.

I train on the hill most of the weekend about 65 to 80K per train, foo on patrol wrote:To be honest no but we need a lot more info about what level you're at and how you train.

and the rest of a week day I spin on my trainer about 25K a day.
So what's the cause of my pain there ? I didn't feel it when I climb, just allright, but when I sleep, this pain is annoying me, I can fix it temporarily with dencorub,
it reduced a lot but when it's very cold day, it's abit annoying again...
Is it because of squat ? I lifted about 55kg, and my body weight is 69kg. Does it matter ? and wear a belt for protecting my back as well...
Any ideas guys ?

To me you have torn, strained or pinched something with your squats. Gear combos have no relevance to back pain but stress will and damage will.

Maybe the relationship is due to the posture you adopt on steep climbs, which will differ to 'normal' riding!

Yes. Gear ratio might play a small part, but only to the extent that it could be requiring an increased effort, resulting in altered posture on the bike, which is causing the grief. Try changing to the next gear down to reduce the load through the body & see how that goes.scotto wrote:Maybe the relationship is due to the posture you adopt on steep climbs, which will differ to 'normal' riding!
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

As well as using a lower gear / higher cadence, also try to maintain a more upright posture on the climbs. Sometimes on climbs you can find yourself bending over, which can cause some lower back pain.

I've had a few problems with backpain from cycling, which is actually caused by inadequate stretching. The pain usually occurs after a few weeks of intense cycling, or increasing my hill work. Basically, the heavy workload builds up the big muscles at the top of a cyclists legs, which tends to shorten the muscles, and puts pressure on the lower back. I've learnt that stretching needs to be as intense as your workout.

Must be a pretty flat hill if you can spin 80+ cadence in the 39/17
Vegan since 2001.
