Shimano bottom brackets are not compatible with BB30 frames. You'll have to hunt around for an adaptor set to convert BB30 to BB86 or BB90.

EDIT: My mistake, that should be BB92, not BB90 (that's MTB press-fit).

Doesn't he need a BB30 to Hollowtech II adapter such as those in the link below?

Er... that says 68, not 86 (68 being the width of a BB30 or conventional screw-in bottom bracket) Got another pic of that thing, from a different angle? I'm not too sure how that would lock in securely enough to fit a screw-in BB. :?

That's precisely what I was thinking of.

Incidentally, BB86 has a 86mm wide shell, into which press-fit bearing cartridges are fitted. BB92 (my bad, BB90 is different again.... :? ), like BB30 has the bearings pressed directly into the frame without housings. In both cases the resulting BB width is the same as a screw-in external cartridge BB.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I haven't seen exactly that thing before, but I have seen complete BB cartridges on a similar principle (for fitting into frames where the thread has been stripped).

I'm guessing it's in two parts that thread together; in which case, you'd separate them, insert them into either side of the frame (there's a specific way for it to go - one side will have a reverse thread for the BB, this goes in the right [drive] side of the frame) & screw them together. Then fit the screw-in Shimano BB.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Righto. I suggest paying a visit to your friendly Merida dealer for more info, 'cos it's got me stumped as to how it could be fitted securely enough to screw a BB into it.

Is that tapered section on the left with the big chunk out of it removeable?
