A new George Street Sydney proposal - from Sydney council, with a yellow brick road.
Combine this with that other quite wild proposal to put the train lines underground from Strathfield into Central, redeveloping that space (which should also include a cycleway I'd suspect), and you've got the chance for a lot of people to use a bike to ride to work, instead of taking a car.
Putting the rail lines underground has about as much chance of happening as high speed rail in my view, but it shows they are thinking about various different things.

Where there is a will there is a way. When I lived in Japan they decided to relocate my local train line underground so they could use the space. They managed to do this without affecting a single rail service!g-boaf wrote:http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/art ... 2phfv.html

And SMH has ripped apart an idea to have a built up area above Central Station in Sydney.

Especially good is the approvals difference between casino approvals and the lack of bike infrastructure of note.

And Duncan Gay proposes a cycleway along George Street:

A good idea, provided it extends much further west too.
