HI
Just wondering if any of you guys know if a 1980 "roughly" Medallion Series Custom Built 12 deluxe is worth anything?
In reasonably good condition also has some added extras like a Sanyo Generator that powers two lights one at the front and one at the back, and a speedometer that has no name.
It has 27 x 1 1/4 wheels, Shimano Altus gears and Shimano selecta cranks.
Thanks,
Alister

Hi Alistair,
It probably isn't worth anything really. Condition may play a part in it's worth though, along with how it is used. If it is your main means of transport it could be worth much to you.

I'm sorry that my summation of your bike advised you that it was worth little. To me, it sounded like a bike that often is sold in department stores. They are worth very little but it does depend on the overall condition. Even if tip-top condition they are worth little. Their worth in today's market may not reflect their personal value. My father bought me a bike when I was about 12 years of age. I gave it to a friend when I was about 20 years of age. It wasn't worth anything at the time but, today, if I could get it back, I would pay anything.alo661 wrote:Thanks GaryF

Your bike may be priceless to you.
Photographs of your bike would help greatly in advising you more accurately - perhaps I am completely wrong in my assumptions.

I think that as a general rule, bike stickers that say "custom built" mean the actual opposite. It can be one of fairly loose, meaningless marketing terms.
Still post us a pic though.

The dynamo might be worth something. They used to be the best ones around, short of dynohubs.

+1. Shimano Altus is also a sign of an entry level bike, doesn't mean it's rubbish mind, some very unassuming bikes can actually ride quite nicely.HappyHumber wrote:I think that as a general rule, bike stickers that say "custom built" mean the actual opposite. I had a Panasonic with one of those Sanyo dynamos on it, but it wasn't working, I think I've still got it in a box somewhere though.
