Brisbane Riding Routes

Postby Shpox » Tue Jul 09, 2013 9:58 pm

Hi guys. Is there any chance we can get a directory going of the Brisbane's ride routes for roadies? Would be great to have the Strava/Bikely route linked with the total km of the ride. Getting sick of Riverloop. Have listed a few I've been on below.

Flats:
Riverloop - 36km - [GS, ST]
City to Sandgate - 56.6 - [ST,TH].
City to Manly/Lota via the Gateway Bridge - 56.4km - [ST].

Climbs:
Gap Creek Rd. Climb - 2km - [GS, ST]
Upper Brookfield - 10km - [S]
Mt. Coot Tha (Back) - 9km - [GS,ST].
Mt. Nebo Descent - 18km - [TH].

Road Conditions Key:
S - Safe at most times
GS - Generally Safe
ST - Some Traffic
TH - Traffic Heavy

Or City to Cleveland: 98.8km.

Well, that's one way, there are few different routes you could take...

Not sure if this will work.
http://connect.garmin.com/course/4138631" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can make it a true loop and a bit shorter in distance by heading back up highway through Chandler and swing in the back way to Belmont. I know many riders have Capalaba as the start and finish point which would make it around 80 km.

Looks like I can't edit the main post due to post-time so might just throw them in here
Some are looking good. I personally prefer some sort of loop to get back to the CBD

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know of any good climbs other than Mt Gravatt that are between 1km and 2.5km and a steady gradient between 5% and 7.5%?

you could do the front of Mount coot-tha
the back is 9%, but the front averages out to 6.6% or something

What about Clear Mountain? Winn Road to the lodge (North to South) is only an average of about 4.4% over 4km... although it does have 12%, -12%, 17%, 12%, 16%, -14%, and 20% climbs going from North to South. Strangley enough I find it easier to power up the back of Clear Mountain compared to Coot-tha. I guess its because you can't get a breather anywhere heading up the back.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to head down and have a look at Mt Gravatt today and do a few repeats!
