Thanks lugnut, a nice reminder that there's a real world outside of the expert eBay thread.LugNut wrote:Professional curb crawler, nice guy. Runs the Hard Rubbish Melbourne Facebook page. Vee brake levers with not powerful enough cable pull, flexible 30 year old bottom quality single pivot brakes, rusty 30 year old cables and about 3cm of space before the lever bottoms out on the curve of the drop bars. I bet that thing can stop on a dime.bychosis wrote:This seems to fit the thread title along with a decent attempt at talking it up to price it up.

Seeing that brand new Southern Cross bikes can be bought in K-Mart for around $100 I suspect that the seller is being a tad optimistic. Then again it is a fixie so surely that would account for the extra $150.LugNut wrote:Vee brake levers with not powerful enough cable pull, flexible 30 year old bottom quality single pivot brakes, rusty 30 year old cables and about 3cm of space before the lever bottoms out on the curve of the drop bars. I've not seen that particular model before but steel Giants aren't rare by any means, the orangey-red Peloton pops up on a regular basis. I had one for a little while, not quite my size but it rode ok.LugNut wrote:I've never seen a steel Giant before, so this is a bit of a curiosity. Pity several of us had already passed on it at the Geelong tip shop before he got to it. Even my inexperienced eyes could spot it as a fake at 20 paces, probably only cost him $25-$30 but wasnt even worth it for the running gear.
