Hello all,
I've never really ventured outside the land of Japanese components, so I don't have any experience with ISO square taper bottom bracket spindles, and am looking for a little help.
I'm building up a bike at the moment using Sugino Mighty Competition cranks, which while Japanese as apparently a copy of 70s Nuevo Record, 144bcd and ISO tapers. I'm just looking for a basic cartridge BB, english thread, nutted or hex bolt doesn't matter. Ideally something like a Shimano UN55, but in ISO. What do you all use for your Italian stuff?

Josh, Have a look here (if you haven't already)
http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://sheldonbrown.com/bbtaper.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've had the same problem myself.

Yeah, have a look at Sheldon's guide. A JIS BB taper works just fine, if the ISO crank tapers are good, you do them up reasonably tight, and you buy a shorter JIS BB (not sure, but I think about 8mm shorter is about right). I usually use a very thin smear of anti-sieze on the tapers during installation.morini wrote:Josh, Have a look here (if you haven't already)

I haven't done this for quite a while, but 20 years ago, used to do it all the time.

Campy Centaur 111mm & 115mm. I'd probably use the latter as your cranks would have had an offset (asymetric) BB axle for the drive side to keep the right chainline. Or you could try the 111mm with a spacer under the driveside cup to do the same thing. The 111mm is definitely symmetrical, not sure about the 115 as I've never had one in my hands.TedDancin wrote:Hello all,
