Did the 210km melbourne to sorrento and back having just rocked up to the start line in the morning and thinking ahhh what the heck 2yrs ago.
After paying $150odd for the privilege to enter.
I didn't get a jersey (out of my size- fair enough), but i wasn't issued with an official time.
When I called and emailed to query it, I go no response.
To boot I had 2 flats and got rained on, hailed on and was only narrowly missed by passing bafoons throwing tomatoes out their cars.
So it was easy to miss last year and suggest I wouldn't be doing that again.
This year thought, my bro has put his hand up, and discovered the virtues of cycling.
He's signed me up, so I'll be giving it a 2nd chance.
Now just got to get in shape. I'm not as young or as fit as I used to be. Haha.

I'm doing the 210 and coming in without having cycled in about 8 months. Having moved form WA to Vic, and probably moving back soon after the ride, I don't currently have a bike.
Does anybody know of anywhere that would hire bikes of a reasonable quality out for it? Possibly a longer term hire to use for training in the lead up?

St Kilda Cycles do bike hires for various types of bikes. I don't know what their long-term rates are, though, you'll need to ask them.PBF wrote:I seem to have taken over a friends ticket since he has had to pull out due to injury.

Odd that they don't include the distance of the ferry in the 210. I guess 250 sounds a lot better than 238.you do the extra 12km on the ferry

I agree with you regarding the trip to Portarlington, it's not really worth the additional 28 km. I'll also be doing the 210 this year.

The one ATB I have done so far we were signed up for the 250, but ended up only doing the 210 for that exact reason. That, and I can ride to Portarlington any time I want so not like we were really missing out.yarravalleyplodder wrote:

Small point, Dimis, but it's a charity ride for The Smith Family.Dimis wrote:

Unless it has changed from last year then this is correct (unlikely), none of the entry fee goes to the Smith Family - only the donations raised get passed onto them.neild wrote:Hi Clackers, true they talk about the Smith family but I recall reading that none of the entry fee goes towards the Smith family and they actually want you to fund raise / donate. Thanks mate, but my point was more in regard to the lack of courtesy in respondingclackers wrote:Small point, Dimis, but it's a charity ride for The Smith Family.Dimis wrote:

Anyway, if that's true - I've no issue paying $300odd
BUT If this is true... Then I'll add it as another reason to not bother again in futureneild wrote:Hi Clackers, true they talk about the Smith family but I recall reading that none of the entry fee goes towards the Smith family and they actually want you to fund raise / donate. Quite true. The only money that goes to the Smith Family is that which is raised by participants. The entry fee goes solely towards running the event (funding BNV).Dimis wrote:Thanks mate, but my point was more in regard to the lack of courtesy in respondingclackers wrote:Small point, Dimis, but it's a charity ride for The Smith Family.Dimis wrote:

Long time, no speak
Well, yes I have a 250km ATB ticket but I'm still not sure if I'll be doing the 250km, or perhaps just cutting it short and only doing the 210km, or not doing it at all.
Long story short, had a few health issues which I am just getting back on the bike now so I'm not sure if I'll be as "bike-fit" as I'd like to be come October....but I haven't decided either way just yet.
How's the F75 and TWE wheels going?

My Felt F75 is beautiful as are my TWE's, just love em. I have upgraded the cables to yokozuna and the brake pads to swissstop, made a big difference in breaking power and the gear changes are sharper.
I look at some of the more fancy bikes out there and I couldnt justify the spend to get a frame or components as good as the F75

They have ferries that leave every hour. Although, if you arrive too late you might have to wait a few hours for a free one.dale79 wrote:doing the 210 clockwise,

Yeah, exactly. Doesn't sounds like you should have too many issues though.dale79 wrote:Ok do you mean there is a lot of people waiting Etc?

Yeah, I had a similar sob story.yarravalleyplodder wrote:last year I arrived at queenscliff at 11:15 and just missed the cut off for the 12pm ferry and had to wait for the 1pm ferry.
