Riding 1200ks... Alice Springs to Katherine July 11

As the title states I will be riding as part of 5 riders from Alice springs to Katherine from the 11 July to the 21st of July (as part of the road to recognition)... I'll be taking my Oppy C5, spare set of wheels heaps of tubes and spares tyres. We have a support crew that will have all the nutrients for us and we will be averaging 120ks per day.... It looks like all I will have all the support I need but what else should I prepare for...

I ride 56ks per day averaging 33-35ks per hour in traffic (they want to ride averaging 25-30kph) I'm pretty fit having completed a half marathon in 1h 43m and my 10k average is 45m on the run (I'm running around 30-40ks per week), I've completed the oxfam 100k walk in 35hrs... I'm 37yo 188cm and weigh between 82-85kgs (I did weigh 133kgs in jan last year)... For the last month should I be upping the ks on the bike or should I keep doing what I am doing? Anything else I should prepare for???

Give some thought to some longer rides at the average distance you plan to be riding each day, so your body can get used to the time you'll be spending in the saddle. Bums are typically the first thing to give out.

I doubt that you will have any trouble with 120k's a day especially in a group. Sounds like a great experience.

Just a bit of thread mining but the trip is finished... biggest day was 160ks.. 8 riders 10 days.. averaged 33kmph... I'll post some pictures up tomorrow. ..

Congratulations and just completely out of curiouslity, why Katherine and not Darwin? Was there some significance in choosing Katherine ans the end point?

Can't wait to see the pics. Was it cold out there?
