Moreton Bay 100 or 75 or 160

Hi all,

I am doing the 100km option and noticed that not many riders have signed up.

Maybe some members here will be interested in doing this ride on the 11th of August.

There are 50km, 100km and 160km options. Routes and route profiles are on the site.

I'd love to know, are roads closed to traffic for these events, or do you have to share the road with traffic?

I've never participated in any such event, as I work weekends, but after my recent travels, I'd love to participate in some events if the roads are closed to traffic.

If the roads aren't closed, I don't really see any attraction as it wouldn't be much different to most peoples every day rides.

Normally in charity rides the roads are open If you are lucky you may get waved through controlled intersections.

Even most road races will only have rolling closures.

At least one reason for not many signing up is most people capable of doing the 100 and 160 can and probably do ride these routes regularly.
They are also not as scenic as the blurb suggests, and they go through areas well populated by cyclist hating bogans.

Myself and many guys I ride with are disinterested in charity rides these days - i.e. Brissie to Bay, Coot-tha Challenge.
The only one I've done for the last 3 years is Bris to Gold Coast, cos I like going down the busway, which can't be done normally.

As for the charitable side, I already devote more time, labor, and dollars than most I know towards charity, so I don't feel a heel for not considering yet another charity ride.

I think people who want to raise money from cycling could recognize this market is a little saturated, and requires more creativity to compete for cyclists' time, energy, and dollars.

Why bother posting if you aren't interested, this isn't a thread about why you don't do charity rides it is simply a thread to help spread the word about the ride.

I presumed you were genuinely interested in the success of this charity ride, and in line with that, have given you coal face views what can be done to make that more likely. I wonder if the people organizing the event surveyed Moreton Bay or Hamilton Wheelers CCs to see what interest there'd be.

Just wondering how everyone that entered went on the 160k version of this event.

apart from a few missing signs and wrong turns it was a good day. i noticed that i only clocked up 143km? did anyone else have similar distance. i had the route downloaded to my garmin, but i noticed that it went off course alot. i followed all the signs that i could find, i think i missed part of the course.

overall, i was happy with my effort, and look forward to entering next year.

I did the 100 this year (2015).
It was great fun. Bit of a trial finding the route, and took a wrong turn at the base of the final hill, laugh.

My first 100 ... Cold misty morning.
Went out with the front runners and got dropped at 30kms towards the end of the hills.
Rode some of the rest of the ride with one new mate, and then a couple of casual riders.
Got over took by a simsuit wearing woman tri athlete near the end who paced herself well - when i was running low on juice.
Geez, going over the 3km bridge was a highlight.
