Its a nice problem to have for all the wrong reasons...

But FWIW, you picked my two favs in one hit.
Colnago C59 for a lugged frame, and an "older" BMC SLR01 (BB30 frame).

In fact I like the BMC SLR01 so much, I bought 2. :D
I'm not doing as much riding these days however to convince the wife I need a Colnago C59 as well.

if i get killed while out on my bike i dont want a 'memorial ride' by random punters i have never met.

You need to go back to the start and read the op again. Not an option.

Saw a Baum Ristretto on Sunday. Gorgeous! Made my S-Works Tarmac look like JAPB (just another plastic bike).

I'm not sure what I'd do with $19K. It'd be easier to answer if it was $30K so I could just go hog wild and get everything. I want something steel, something Ti, a hardtail, a wet weather special etc etc. Certainly could get a couple of beauties for that money though. Baum road, Indy Fab MTB or vice-versa, perhaps?

EDIT: Forgot Llewellyn. Choices choices!

Well, I have no idea because I wouldn't be able to push a bike that good to its limits.... However, I wouldn't say no to the Carbon single speed mountain bike that's in my LBS at the moment... Mmmm, pure art that thing is :D Oh and custom titanium roadie wouldn't go astray either 8)

Bugger that he got his bikes stolen, that's probably the second worst way to have to spend $19k on bikes.

$19,000 is an obscene amount of money to spend on a bike. Damn first world problems.
Agreed. I'd have trouble justifying spending more than about $1000 on 2 bikes. That's all I'd need, really: one really good example each of a tourer/commuter bike and a road bike, and I'd be happy. The rest could pay for a cycling tour trip to Europe (or even more than one?).
Read the original post - the money is a credit so he has to spent it on bikes.
...his insurance is paying him out $19k for the bikes. He isn't getting cash, but $19k credit through his insurance companies bike supplier, who can get him any bike brand he wants.
I had already read the original post, and my comment doesn't change.

hate to say it but a 2nd hand Bennelli cafe racer.
then with the change
a giant trance
and some flash carbon rims with chris king hubs and dura ace shifters for the Trek

being a realist, I'll never need a better bike than the trek and a dualie just soaks up bumps offroad.
Trek Madone 3.1
Giant CRX4 - Black Ghost
Shogun Trailbreaker3
I need a dualie

You can sell them for more than $25K if you remember to list features like full mountain power and giant alloy claws.

If you want an exclusive expensive bike you can always try a Cyfac.

This one could probably just squeeze in under the budget

$19K!!

That would be $6K worth of machinery and $13K worth of wank factor (no really emperor, those clothes are the finest in the land).

Way to be a fashion victim

Not if you want a few bikes in the stable, it isn't.

Besides, nothing wrong with bikes as art as well as bikes as bikes. No different to expensive cars, watches etc etc. Some people buy the BMW and the Breitling. If I had the money, I'd still be driving my Pulsar and wearing my $200 'good' watch, but I'd love to own a lot of nice bicycles...

I reckon the OP's mate who had his bikes' stolen was unwise in not investing more in home security than spending on bicycles.

And this story highlights why I'll never pay more than $5k for a bike
- a $19k bike can be trashed as easily as a $1.3k bike.
- I don't have to insure a $1.3k bike with premiums overinflated by people who buy $20k bikes and have them damaged or stolen.
- for 19k, I can buy 4 sub 5k bikes...2 roadies, 1 CX, 1 MTB. who cares what they are...that isn't going to make me go significantly faster or safer up hills or on the flats.....and if I spent wisely I could get a 5th bike, a cargo e-bike for hauling stuff...
