I was impressed with the size of his sandwich bag

I run 12psi for trail riding and 6psi on the beach.

At 118kgs I eat a lot of sandwiches

I've uploaded the track and marked up the route to open street map. This ride included a great section of old railway alignment that has not been used for the road. If you can't see the route on OSM, dm me, and I'll send you the track.

Been having fun while the sun is still shining and our balmy Melbourne weather.

The wee-wee ride - So let me set the scene. A *fast* ride down from Cape Conran along the Powerline track. Fat suspension forks are fabulous at high speed and rough terrain and a life saver under brakes but still scary trying to turn *suddenly*. Perhaps a bit of wee came out.


Stop at Dock Inlet and a quick wash before pushing on toward that sandy patch and then negotiate the viper trail to the ocean beach. It's full of red bellied black snakes who were uncharacteristically angry. A bit more wee came out.


A glorious sight when you crest the beach dune and bomb down only to find the last bit washed away and a huge drop to the beach....at speed.... More wee.


Find some shade for a bite to eat and turn back to get onto the bike only to find this big guy standing there holding his ground. He wanted my food and rushed me to drop it. They do that out there. Wee...


Onto the beach where the sand was soft and the rounded particles made it difficult - even with 3psi on BFL tyres. If you look back to the distance you'll see that the beach had a steep fall and riding soft sand with a side slope is hard. Very hard. You have to contort your body to pressure the rear and essentially skim the front over the sand. It's a bit like pulling a mono but keeping the front just touching the surface. This time the bike copped a wee - anything to help traction.

Can't see why it's stupid. Motorised versions have been available for some time and are quite popular - more and more models are coming on the market. No reason why the same principles can't be applied to bicycles. Another wheel means extra flotation and probably better steering in the soft stuff.

Funny, must be a "weird" demographic I fit ticking the above boxes, I had the Gilera Fuoco (red tadpole scooter above, great bike), still have a Street Strider cross trainer style of the Veleon (home bound on a fluid trainer), and of course have a fat bike.
The Utah Trikes recumbent fattie might suit less obstructed "onroad" snow they pictured it in.
Great front traction braking and stability of the tadpole trikes isn't really a wide fat bike problem to be solved.

Lighter weight and single track accessibility of the conventional fatties is most versatile I think.

Was planning more of this today but I am patching the inside of the tyre instead.

Nice pictures - so jealous. It's raining here and the slick clay is deadly under a fat tyre.

That's a very thin carcas.... I always have a sterile flesh stiching kit in the back pack and it's also great at stitching a tyre back together before slipping a tube in. No amount of sealant is going to help here.

Rear tyre? I take it that you weren't running tubeless? Otherwise you'd be moaning about the "surprise baptise" when a fat tyre full of sealant goes bang.

Still running tubes. It actually happened about 400 metres from home.

But I changed it there for practice and test out my pump. Got it to 13psi in about 5 minutes.

Baby Fatty, just ordered rolling chassis for winter build. Now I can sleep easy

A bit wet today so we rode to the Coffee shop.

Always good to have a coffee if the weather is shizahausen.
Over here in perth the weather was perfect for a ride in the hills.
Took the pug up with the new maverick fork (new to me). The trails over here are rocky so the use of a fork totally changed the ride compared to rigid. If anyone has the newer forks can you please do a write up. I'm running on one tyres which have worn really well.
