Bike ID - possibly Giant, gear hub, upright

Postby BobtheBuilder » Wed May 16, 2018 5:47 pm

Just wondering if anyone would have an idea what this bike is? ... was?!

It's been heavily painted over, but it might be a Giant, but paint is so thick can't read the badge on front. It's got a 4-speed Shimano Nexus gear hub, model no. SG-4R31. Not sure if the handlebars are original, but by the look of them, I suspect not.

Got a pic that might show some hint of the head badge or other details?
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

This is about as good as I can get it. The photo looks bad, but in person it's not any easier to make anything out. It does look like a G I on it.

Yes, that is an old, probably early '90s Giant badge. Unfortunately it's from before my time in the trade, so I can't be any more specific on the model.

I think they got a vat of paint and dipped the bike in it!

Yes it looks like a Giant.

It could be a Giant bike made for the Dutch/European market. I remember when Omafiets in Sydney started they had a heap of second hand Giant's that were spec'd exactly like dutch bikes with internal hub gears, fenders, racks, and a super-upright riding position. I wasnt aware at the time they made bikes for the European market because they'd never sell them in Australia,
