Opal card bike sheds at stations etc

Postby thomashouseman » Wed Aug 29, 2018 4:47 pm

Has anyone used any of these bike sheds that you access with your Opal card? Do you have to secure your bike inside the shed as well? What about removing accessories etc, is that needed?

Thanks in advance.

Although I haven't used one myself, I would treat it as if you have left it in public - so lock it and take any accessories with you. There's no real restriction on who can enter so long as they have an opal card.

If it is like the ones in WA which are only accessible with our version of the "opal" card and you must nominate which one station you can access with your card.

There have been a number of thefts from these bike sheds in WA https://www.communitynews.com.au/joondalup-times/news/girrawheen-police-uncover-horde-bikes-allegedly-stolen-greenwood-warwick-train-stations/

So far, no problems and I used them probably 500 times in last 4 years.

That is exactly how I treat it, I use a bike I would not be devastated to lose, currently a 28 year old Repco Superlite

I use a good D lock + cable and remove accessories

We have Parkiteer in Vic, requires a dedicated access card.
Recommend is full lockup and removal of accessories, there's been a few pinched from my local...
