Team Diary: Katusha First Podium Placement

Ben Swift is third in the second stage of the Giro d’Italia. Swift in his first year as a professional was beaten at the sprint by the winner Petacchi and the GC leader Marc Cavendish.

Filippo Pozzato breakaway in the last climb together Gilbert and Gasparotto but the group, lead by the sprinter’s team, caught them in the final 3 km’s.

Ben Swift: "I’m happy because I took my first podium in the first bug Tour and behind two champions like Petacchi and Cavendish. I was on Petacchi’s wheel when he started strong and I preferred to follow Cavendish that follows him. So I can stay in a slipstream until the finish line."
