Another good for team Lampre-NGC. All the riders were greeted by fans on the roads of the 3rd stage, 198 km from Grado to Valdobbiadene.
After that a breakaway of 5 riders was neutralized at 161st kilometres: Bruseghin tried to find glory with an attack at 3 km to go, before being caught by the bunch of 56 cyclists; then Visconti performed a counter attack but the sprinters didn?t gave him space. Sprint for the victory with Petacchi first on Farrar and on Gavazzi (3rd).
Very good result for Cunego too, who crossed the finish line in 5th position, and a place near the top ten for Gasparotto (11th). Bruseghin reached the arrival in 31st place.
"I was willing to try an attack and it has been fantastic hearing the shouts by the fans" Bruseghin explained "The action hadn’t an happy end: I would have preferred to try a counter attack, but no one took the charge of the action and so I decided to start. Anyway, I’m satisfied".
"Good result by Gavazzi, a youngster in good fit" Sport director Copeland said "For what concerns Cunego, today his target was to avoid crashes and so he was in the head of the bunch and in the sprint he tests his legs, but without spending energies".
In the overall standing, Gavazzi is 10th at 52"to the leader Petacchi, while Cunego and Bruseghin are 16th and 18th at 1".
Lampre-NGC is leader in the team points and time classifications.
