Michele Scarponi of Team Diquigiovanni won the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia. just ahead of the onrushing peloton, which was led across the finish line by Edwald Boasson Hagen (Columbia) and Australian Allan Davis (Quick Step).
MILRAM’s Thomas Rohregger crossed the finish line near his home town as 14th, and thus defended his 18th overall ranking. Italian Danilo Di Luca (LPR) retaind the leader’s pink jersey.
"The stage didn’t go so well for us today," said Vittorio Algeri, Directeur Sportif for Team MILRAM. "First, we didn’t make it into the escape group, then both Fothen brothers were near the back of the field when the peloton split 10 km before the finish line. So we couldn’t use Thomas Fothen for the final sprint. Thomas Rohregger was able to make it to the front group and did his best possible. He is still in a good overall position. There simply are days like this, tomorrow can be totally different."
