Alejandro Valverde final winner of Dauphin? Lib?r?

Dauphin? Lib?r? finished yesterday with a 146 kilometres stage between Faverges and Grenoble, with two. 3rd category hills in the first part of the distance, and Mont?e de Saint-Bernard-du-Touvet at the end, followed by 20 kilometres downhill to the finish.

Several riders wanted to try their luck in this final stage, and a 29-wheel group attacked after 10 kilometres. World ITT champion Bert Grabsch attacked alone before Mont?e de Saint-Bernard-du-Touvet. I this final ascent, the leading group as well as the peloton exploded, while the Silence-Lotto was very active. Cadel Evans attacked ceaselessly Valverde, but the Spaniard resisted till the finish.

At the head of the race, Grabsch was passed by Timothy Duggan (Garmin – Slipstream), Stef Clement (Rabobank) and S?bastien Joly (Fran?aise des Jeux), Clement winning the stage ahead of Duggan and Joly.

Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’?pargne) wins Dauphin? Lib?r? for the second time in a row; Cadel is 2nd 16" back.
