Andy Schleck 9th after First Mountain Stage

Bruce Feillu (Agritubel) escaped from the breakaway on the last climb and maintained the gap all the way to the finish line. However, it was another member of the front group, Rinaldo Nocentini (AG2R), who took the leader’s jersey from Team Saxo Bank’s Fabian Cancellara.

Andy Schleck is now ninth in the overall standings. Fabian Cancellara lost more than nine minutes and is now finally gone from the top of the overall standings.

"Everything went well and just as planned from our morning meeting. We had no interest in being in the forefront of the field today and waist unnecessary energy. And although I would have liked to have retained the jersey it’s ok to lose it today. Fabian has been riding fantastic all week and we are absolutely satisfied with the course so far”, said Bjarne Riis after stage.

"We did what we had planned to do which was leaving the work to Astana who evidently wanted to win the leader’s jersey. When I could not follow the pace in the front group I tried to find my own rhytm to save as much energy as possible for the next two weeks of hard work", told a content Jens Voigt after the tough stage.
