Daryl Impey Ready to Race Again

After his terrible crash in the final metres of the Tour of Turkey in April, the young South African rider is working hard and will be in Italy on July 20 as is expected to start racing in August.

Impey was forced to stay in bed for two months due to vertebrae fractures and was on a liquid diet due to a fractured jaw. He began training fifteen days ago with short rides on his bike and has also been doing strength work in the gym.

"I’m very happy with my recovery process", Impey said from South Africa. "Finally my jaw is free of wires and I am able eat properly and my back is definitely better. I started off with just 20 minutes a day and I feel I’m in the right direction. I managed to ride over three hours."

Impey is determined to make a successful comeback, is motivated like never before and is working hard ready for his return at the GP Carnago, in Italy, on August 6.

"It will be good to be back in the peloton in August and I hope to get onto the podium in one of my remaining races, doing well for the team and the sponsors." he said.

Team Barloworld manager Claudio Corti is obviously delighted that Impey is on the road to recovery.

"Daryl will start racing in August and the hope is that he can quickly find the form he had when he won the Tour of Turkey in April," Corti said.
