Jayco Herald Sun Tour 100 Days to Go

The 2009 Jayco Herald Sun Tour will kick off in Ballarat. The opening day of racing will feature a criterium in the centre of Ballarat before the Tour proper gets underway with the first stage starting and finishing in Ballarat on Monday 12 October.

Once again the final stage of the race will held on the spectacular Lygon Street in Melbourne, where South Africa’s Daryl Impey claimed the stage last year and Stuart O’Grady wrapped up the yellow jersey with the support of Brad McGee in his final race.

The 2009 tour route is a challenging one that takes in some traditional cycling strongholds with stages finishes in:

– Warrnambool – home of the famous Melbourne-Warrnambool bike race
– Apollo Bay – the home of Phil Anderson
– Barwon Heads – the home of Cadel Evans
– Geelong – host of the 2010 UCI Road World Championships.

The course will reward those prepared to attack so we can expect some aggressive and entertaining racing.
