Quick Step Wallon Diary

The fourth stage in the Tour de Wallonie wasn`t susposed to be a very spectacular stage.

Once again the riders proved that they make a race and not the organizers. In the first 80 kilometres of the stage there were several attacks, involving Wouter Weylandt, Dries Devenyns and Maarten Wynants for Team Quick Step. Nobody got away, so the tempo stayed high during this part of the stage.

With some more than 100 kilometres to go a group of 28 riders got clear, only 1 riders could bridge the gap and so there were 29 leaders in the stage. Amongst those 29 riders there were 2 guys of our team, Kevin Hulsmans and once again Devenyns who did a good job for his overall ranking. The peloton didn`t had the intention to catch the escapees and dropped the tempo totally down, they came in 36 minutes behind the winner. From the group of 29 there were 3 riders who escaped again, De Gendt, Brutt and El Fares decided about the stage win today.

The young Belgian rider De Gendt took the stage win eventually, while El Fares was the new leader in the overall. Devenyns (16th) and Hulsmans (19th) ended in the chase group. Devenyns moved up to a 7th place in the overall ranks, Hulsmans is now 23rd.
