The first of two stages of the Tour without radios between the riders and their cars was a total fiasco for AS0. Either by consent of the riders wanted a day off it was a slow stage.
"That was long ago", said Johan Vansummeren at the end of the stage without radio. "My whole generation has bee racing with these auxiliaries; I have never raced without them since I was junior.
The result on the stage was null."
"ASO’s objective did hot happen. This ride was a sorry affair", said Marc Sergeant.
Cadel Evans, "A very relaxed day, free of stress. At last, I did not have Hendrik’s voice all the time in the ear. We have just chatted together. But seriously with out a without radio, I don’t give a damn, provided we all ride on the same footing".
"I heard that David Millar wanted to attack in the last kilometres. I was ready to jump, said Mat Lloyd. "But there was much wind, and we were descending at over 80 km/h. What could then a mere 54 kilo man do?"
