Alejandro Valverde won today in the Lagunas of Neila the 31st edition of the Tour of Burgos, after he took place four in the fifth and last stage, 9 seconds behind winner Ezequiel Mosquera.
Alejandro, who attacked his rivals in the final climb of the day and finished the race ten seconds ahead of Xabier Tondo and twelve of Tom Danielson, won also the final classification of the regularity.
“Because I was only 5 seconds late in the general classification, I knew that the stage of today was a great opportunity to win the final classification but I also knew that it would not be easy because our adversaries had not the least intention to make things easy for us.
Just as they use to do it each time it is necessary, my team-mates achieved one more time a fantastic job to make things easier for me and I really thank them because in the final ascension I just had to make the difference.
I had the necessary forces and motivation to do it and that is very important for me because the Tour of Spain will start in less than three weeks.
I will keep on working a lot to arrive at hundred percent of my condition in Assen on August 29 to try and win my first victory in a three weeks major Tour.”
This is Alejandro Valverde’s seventh win in 2009 after he already won the third and the fifth stage of the Tour of Castilla y Le?n, the Kl?sika Primavera in Amorebieta, the third stage and the final classification of the Tour of Catalonia and the final classification of the Dauphin? Lib?r?.
