erv?lo TestTeam: Marchante Returns to Form

Joaquin Rodriguez (Caisse d’Epargne) won today’s 2nd stage at the Vuelta Burgos and with it captured the overall lead as well. The 153 km stage from Villasana de Mena to San Juan del Monte saw Rodriguez arrive at the mountain finish a second before Ben Hermans (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator). Rodr?guez’s teammate Alejandro Valverde finished in third. Best result for Cerv?lo TestTeam today was Jose Angel Gomez Marchante in 20th position.

"We tried to defend the sprint jersey for Ted today," said Alex Sans Vega, Sports Director. "We were controlling the race but there were a lot of attacks and at the end there were just so many attacks that we lost it. But Ted is only 1 point behind and you can bet we’ll fight to get it back. The Team is also working for Simon, as the course characteristics are well suited to his style of the racing (the course was hilly). But during the race Simon did not feel 100% and at the end, on the final climb both Jose Angel Gomez Marchante and Inigo Cuesta were stronger."

Friday’s third stage at 175 kilometres is the longest stage in the race and relatively flat, so quite good for the sprinters. The stage, which starts and finishes in Burgos, includes three intermediate sprints and no classified climbs.
