Vuelta and the Yellow Jersey

The Yellow Jersey in the Spanish Vuelta is now rapidly changing hands and Australia’s Cadel Evans a top contender. After Stage 8, Evans took overall lead with 2 seconds on Valverde. After Mondays Stage 9, Valverde now has 7 seconds on Evans.

Previous yellow jersey holders Cancellara and Greipel have now both dropped out as contenders – both over 30 minutes behind the leaders ( Greipel still holds the green jersey, as the points leader). Close however is the dutch rider Robert Gesink (36 seconds), US rider Thomas Danielson, Italian Ivan Basso and Spanish Samuel S?nchez.

Evans has been closely guarded by the competition during his races this year, notibly in the Tour de France, may now have a chance with Alberto Contador and Carlos Sastre not riding the Vuelta this year.
