Sydney is now bike friendly as it announces a week long cycling festival for October. SydneyCycleways (Sydney City Council) has announced the Sydney Ride Festival which runs from 8 to 16 October in 2011 and includes a Ride to Work breakfast, the Bicycle NSW Spring Ride and the Sydney Bike Film Festival.

The festival starts with a street party off Bourke Street on 8 October and welcomes families and coincides on 16 October with the Pirrama Park Family Bike Day with live entertainment and a host of activities.

Coinciding the National Ride to Work day on Wednesday 12 October, cyclists can get a free breakfast in Hyde Park as well as bike checks and tune-ups. The Sydney Rides Challenge involves businesses with a competition to see who can get the highest percentage of their staff commuting on a bike.
