Mocha Me Coffee Body Scrub

Do you love coffee? No, I mean do you really love it? Do you love it to the point where you would you get naked and smear it all over your body? You would? Well, do I have a product for you!

Coffee and cyclists go together like fish and chips, it’s a natural pairing, but now we can take it one step further. Mocha Me are an Australian company producing a coffee based body scrub in a variety of “flavours”. Yes, this is a “beauty product”, not a cycling specific product, and when we start talking beauty products we’re moving away from the manly image of cycling (i.e. skinny sweating men in tight clothing), but I thought I would give it a try anyway.

The scrubs I tried, the original and the coconut body scrubs, are part of a range of coffee based face and body scrubs. The scrubbing part comes from the main ingredient, coffee grounds, which provide excellent abrasive exfoliation. The grounds are held in a base of essential oils (e.g. almond and coconut) and ghee, which is the clarified butter that’s a staple of Indian cooking. In this context, however, the ghee helps the grounds to spread when rubbed on the skin.

The first thing you’ll notice when you open the resealable foil bag is the familiar (and strong) coffee smell. The scrub doesn’t feel greasy at all and a little goes a long way when you apply it to your skin. I have been banned from posting in-use shots, but imagine you’ve just done a really serious cyclo-cross or mountain bike race in the rain and you’re covered in dirt and you’ll get a visual, except the mud smells like best part of the morning ride.

Ever tried to hold a camera while applying a scrub at the same time?

The scrub is definitely invigorating and will give your skin a delightful tingle. As you move it over your skin, you will discover why they call it a scrub – this is no body wash, it’s an exfoliant, and you’ll feel it scrubbing away that shameful performance on the last hill of the day. Leave it on for a little while and then wash it off; your skin will be smooth, moisturised, and smell like coffee. Maybe there is something to all of these beauty products after all.
