Cyber Tubes – Tubolito PSENS delivers tyre pressure to your smart phone

Position the valve at 12 O’Clock, then put your phone close and the tyre pressure pops up on your smart phone in PSI and Bar. This saves the extra step of reaching for the floor-pump if you just want to check the pressure before heading out. On the trails it is now more convenient to quickly check that you are correctly dialled in.

The range of bright orange inner-tubes from the Swiss brand tubolito are light-weight and the ‘inner-tube of choice’ for weight-weenies although the 50% weight savings come at a premium price costing 5 – 6 times the price of a conventional inner-tube. As a compact and low-weigh spare inner-tube, the brand as built a solid customer-base.

To accompany newly release BMX and Gravel specific inner tubes, the PSENS is a a real head-turner. This is available for 27.5″ and 29″ MTB tubes and includes a NFC chip – Near Field Communication – which means that the chip has no battery but is woken-up and charged from the iOS or Android smart-phone. Within a few seconds it can record and display the tyre pressure. The comparatively large NFC chip is embedded inside the tubolito tube and at this stage the PSENS tech is currently only available for the MTB inner-tubes. It is probable that the size could be reduce to be used for smaller sized tubes in the future.

The retail is USD 49.90 (ca. AUD 65) which brings put it at 6 – 10 times the price of a regular inner-tube. With a specified weight of 93g, the electronic version still shaves off about 70g off the weight of a conventional inner tube.
