Saw that today. There seems to be dirt on the road at Ginninderra Dr overpass as well.Noviss wrote:Looks like someone lost their trailer load of gravel over the bike lane on the GDE northbound just past the Belconnen way flyover. Looks pretty precarious.

This car is still there.Ross wrote:Parked/broken down car partially blocking cycle lane on Federal Highway (northbound) just before BP servo near Watson
Majura Parway bike lane southbound is closed about 1km after the green sign saying 7km to the airport. There is a yellow and black barrier across the path with a sign directing bikes onto the bike path. The sign also says the lane is closed until Novemer. You can actually still get past relatively safely, once past the barrier tghelane is clear for about another kilometre then there arfe some orange traffic cones lined up next to the lane and a little further on where they are actually doing construction (for new access road to back of IKEA) there are a bunch of concrete barriers in the bike lane but parallel to it (so halving the width of it).

Gininderra Drive and Gungahlin Drive seem to be the worst. Barton Highway and Majura Parkway seemed OK. Not sure why the cycle lanes aren't being swept. Along Caswell Drive near the Belconnen Way exit it looks like they have swept the road and all the loose stones have been swept into the cycle lane .

There is either a lot of rubbish in the bike lanes or I am having a bad run.
Will raise another Canberra Connect issue and no doubt get the same response as last time and once again nothing will be done!

Post a request to Fix My Street. If the debris in the bike lane poses a risk or danger to cyclists, make sure you say that.
I get dangerous potholes filled within 3-4 days, reliably.

No worries...if I am getting punctures at least someone else isn't.Howzat wrote:Noviss - thanks for your public-spirited efforts to clean up the streets with your tyres!

Reported it to Fix My Street and highlighted the dangers particularly with the end of daylight saving and lack of lighting along the GDE.
Think I will stick to the bike paths from now on and take my chances with pedestrians who seem to think they don't need any form of illumination to maintain visibility. Can't afford to keep riding on rubbish filled cycle lanes.

Got caught at this one today on a leisure ride. Figured it must have been my own stupidity given that this is the main path for Belconnen to Gungahlin. I came from the Palmerston side and the signage was at best confusing and at worst completely inadequate. Someone could end up in a real mess in the dark if they hit the fence that has been put across the path. There has been work going on at this corner for over 6 months but this is the first time it has been closed.Ross wrote:Shared path in Gungahlin that runs ajacent to Gungahlin Lakes Club at the intersection of Gundaroo and Gungahlin Drives has been closed and cyclists/peds now have to negotiate the Gungahlin Lakes Club carpark (and drunk club patrons ) to jump a gutter to access a hopefully temporary compacted dirt path leading back up to the Gungahlin Dr path. There are no detour signs, just a 3m high fence with big yellow sign saying path closed.

Now if only they could do the rest of the ACT roads that have a dangerous "lip" (between the road surface and the shoulder) where the road has been resurfaced eg Gungahlin Drive, Ginninderra Drive, Barton Highway, Federal Highway, Sutton Road just to name a few.Ross wrote:This is more of an "anti-warning". The on-road bike lane of the Federal Hwy near Eaglehawk has (finally) been resurfaced to match the quality and more importantly the height of the ajacent roadway. Smooth!

Should be able to see it ok during the day but if riding there pre-dawn or in the evening you might not see it until too late.
