A biggy for me - 50,000
Postby ColinOldnCranky » Mon Mar 06, 2017 8:23 pm
But on my next ride I will pass 50,000km on my commute unicycle.
Luycra warriors take note. It's just an old clunky heavy steel framed, steel rimmed "training" unicycle. It doesn't take the latest, flashest, named branded, hi-tech, annually replaced and expensive gear to get there - just time and tedium.
And it can STILL be fun.

But they are closed for some alterations today and tomorrow so I have to delay my ride to the day after, Wednesday.
BUT, I have a Wednesday engagement in the morning. So that makes another day to push back.
Damn, looks like Thursday morning. That last six kms is taking forever!
I expect a couple of encouraging shouts this Thursday on the Kwinana Freeway path.

I've enjoyed your level headed and humorous posts here over the years.
I have always found guys who think and act outside the square are the most interesting, and wise.
There's no unicycle commuter in Brisbane, and I've often thought of emulating you, but two wheels is easier!

Yes there is - I've seen him several times in Tank Street when I leaving for the office, but I've never managed to catch up with him.CKinnard wrote:lThere's no unicycle commuter in Brisbane, and I've often thought of emulating you, but two wheels is easier!

Yeah - I've seen that guy a bit further along, near King George Square, in the morning.RonK wrote:Yes there is - I've seen him several times in Tank Street when I leaving for the office, but I've never managed to catch up with him.CKinnard wrote:lThere's no unicycle commuter in Brisbane, and I've often thought of emulating you, but two wheels is easier!

As luck would have it I started with a puncture a few hundred metres from home.

Not me. Besides I'd never be seen dead in white soxpiledhigher wrote:Looking for a thread to post this, I'm presuming you were spotted...

I ride a 24", anyone else doing distance rides big wheels like the 36" featured in the video.
Thanks for thinking of me anyway. There is the occasional one taken without my awareness that just captures the moment beautifully.

Not sure how well the tux fits atm. I've added a couple of kg over the last year of caravanning and general sloth. Settled back into habit since returning a couple of months ago and slowly returning to my old svelte self.Mububban wrote:Amazing effort. And I love the "tux" jersey

The Sassy's lease was bought out by Rubras who have done a total refit of the customer space. Major work on the kitchen is limited substantially by it's heritage value.novice_101 wrote:Is Sassy's on the Swan different to that 'Rubra' place ?? Or is Rubra just a renaming of the same place ?
Rubra's business is wholesale Rubra branded coffe. The cafe is their foray into retailing with a view to showcasing their brand. AFAIK it is a family business. Cooincidentally my other local coffee stop is Toast 100m from where I now live, who also use Rubra coffee.
The lessors of the cafe space is the Western Australian Rowing Club who occupy the heritage listed boat shed as a whole. The club celebrated it's 150th anniversary three weeks ago.
