I had hoped this person would have offered it to forum members first, however it's now apparently for sale on ca$htree:

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/tathra/ ... 1184571325

Has a 55cm (c-c) seat-tube. Too small for me, but well worth saving due to the rarity and age.

ebay listing dunlop bike seat saddle antique leather vintage

Messages
Me: It is a Dunlop rubber top saddle, not a leather one. the current description is misleading.
benjohn13: Leather, thanks

Me: I did not understand your reply
benjohn13: It is not rubber, the seat in made of leather.

me: No, it is a Dunlop rubber saddle. Dunlop made rubber products. They did not make leather saddles. Brooks, Mansfield, Leatheries and many other made leather saddles.
Look underneath and you will see moulding marks.
I have two of these saddles, and a number of the Brooks and Mansfields.
Would you please change the description or your listing will be reported.
benjohn13: You should actually buy it! 3 is a magic number :)

well that was hard work, but the description is now 'dunlop bike seat saddle antique vintage'
but at $90 as a starting bid, it is likely to stay where it is in Warrnambool.

Seeing this is an MH Jones I was about to launch a rescue mission but Beaconsfield is a suburb of Perth!
We will have to rely on our WA colleagues to step in

I was going to say didn't someone post about a really nice MH Jones recently, but when I looked it up it was yours :)

It has been a while since MHJonesRegister posted on the forums but perhaps this will bring it to their attention
MHJonesRegister wrote: Re: MH Jones Bicycles Perth(?)
Still got your MHJ? I have started a register and am researching and contacting more and more owners to share info and maybe do the occasional ride. I'm new to this forum so not sure how it all works but look around for stuff I've recently posted. I plan to issue acrylic tags for verifiable frames/bikes. Contact Frank West via mhjonesregister@gmail.com. Thank you!

What does the SG (SC?) bottom bracket cut out stand for? Owner's initials?

That is correct - one of the builder's trademarks apparently. Must admit if I wasn't the other side of a very large continent that would be mine. The man was an artist and an engineer. (also right size!)

Don't you hate it when you forget to set the snipe program & so miss out on an item at 1/2 the price you were prepared to pay! Someone got a bargain ax hidden bolt stem. I console myself with the fact it would need different size bars

Don't worry I have saved it and yes it's not a track bike but pretty certain pre 1930 so a very very nice/rare pickup. Not trying to defend the person selling but in a later post he did give his email and say make an offer.

I acquired via eBay but the seller was pretty realistic about what he had and was aware that he possibly wouldn't do it properly so happy to sell. He was also very easy to deal with.

So now I'm looking for some appropriate wheels (in the interim I can borrow from another bike) and it won't be hard to get rideable.

You'll find that it takes 28 inch wheels Gordon. I think you can buy new ones overseas but they would be outside your budget I reckon unless you plan on a respray and complete restoration. Best bet is to find a really beat up old bike and pinch the wheels off it.
28 inch tyres are also hard to get but a couple of the retro guys here know where to source them.

For me, those old roadsters are best fitted with 28 inch wheels and 3 speed Sturmey archer hubs.
Something to think about.
Cheers

Don't worry I already have my eyes on 28 x 1 and 3/8 wheels. I believe Eadie coaster hub is more accurate.Have tyres, have suitable tubes with Dunlop/Woods valves chainwheel would be hard to get a Williams with the correct date but have plenty of generic that are same pettern so should be reasonably easy, just if I could find the time.

Watch this space, but not for photos, too hard oh and your text messages.

Does something interesting lurk underneath all this parts mish-mash and bad photos? One for Brisbaneites:

Hey Gordon1 good to hear it's gone to sympathetic hands. The serial number seemed to definately place it in the early 30's. Was too small for me (then encouraged the seller to offer it to other forum members first) and located in woop-de-woop so all seemed a bit too hard. Please post some pics when it's back on the road!

I always thought hipster was a term of derision, but someone thinks hipster sells. Apparently Bennett, by Bennett & Wood is too obscure for him to recognise

A Max Rowley Harley sold for $120 just as I clicked on it. I call that a bargain and would have gone for more if auctioned.

In other news, there's a big rusty old Borsari with a starting price of $99

That 'made in Australia' Reynolds tubing decal makes this very interesting (apart from the lovely lugwork). However this looks pretty far gone sadly, rust is probably now internal and in the lugs :( plus it looks like the top tube is bent behind the head tube. Pity.

I’d buy that Borsari but it needs buckets of money thrown at it to do it right, but seeing as he’s not interested in postage ...........:(

Not one of the usual [Italian] suspects.

A Gianni Motta with starting price of $50 is pretty sweet.
