Surely someone has to ask about this (and stop calling me Shirley). I live in Melbourne and have a Cecil or two and we all know about Curly Hetchins. I have not seen a curly Cecil or does it have English roots

It's a 1 of
Custom built by Paconi ,1 of the last custom frames made for CW's
If not the last , it has been sitting upstairs for 10 years until I got wind of it & had to have :D

Love this bike. Have always had a thing for a dark green frame, and the curly-wurly inspired stays are just freaky cool.

No the lugs are typical Paconi

Regardless of the lugs, it's a great bike to own. It must attract many comments when out on a ride/coffee.

I love everything about your Cecil Walker. Apart from the curly stays, the colour scheme is beautiful and the gum walled tyres help to set it off. Nice components too.

I've never owned a Paconi and wish I had. I think The Paconi frames are well crafted of which yours is a prime example and the paint finishes are up there with the best.

I read it in the context of the recent listing of a Porshe (later Ricardo) for $2000. The justification for the Porshe's pricing was that it was rare in the condition it was in.
There were some comments suggesting that the price was unlikely to be met. These comments could be construed as being contrary to the conditions which include "Trolling, negativity about a sellers product, and generally being a nuisance will not be tolerated."
I too thought the price was excessively ambitious.
Then the Cecil Walker with curved chainstays was listed for an equally ambitious price, with the lister (because it is unlikely to be a seller) adding "I'll throw in a wooden 356 wheel if that clinches the deal" with obvious reference to the Porshe advert, and then in response to the comment "Rare doesn't mean valuable", came the reply "Yes correct & that's my punchline" as well as " I've had 2 people hassle me for it, so that's the magic number"

Roman/Spannermonkey usually has a robust approach to postings, and I would expect him to consider accepting offers of $10,000, whilst he fully understands that they are not likely to be forthcoming.

Some lovely Mavic parts on that bike. What's with those pedals? I never thought I'd see bear trap pedals on a lovely starfish crank!

Looks a bit big for you too. That Flite saddle is quite far back on its rails.

Hi Guys,

I went to Cash Convertors yesterday and found a beautiful old roadie. It is an Avanti Edge Comp Series in Blue (51cm). Its is in very, very good condition, but I am not sure when its from. Its really light for an old roadie, maybe 9 kilos. It originally had downtube shifters on it but the previous owner has put cable stops on and switched to STI levers. Shimano Sora Mechs and STI Levers. Full spec below.

Image

Crankset: Shimano RSX (32, 50 I think)
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Sora (indexed)
Front Derailleur: Shimano Sora (non indexed)
Brake Callipers: Shimano EXAGE (I will have to check what version
Wheelset: Alex Road Wheelset
Seat: Avanti Stock Seat
Levers: Shimano Sora 2 x 8 STI Levers
Cassette: Cant tell, but its 8 Speed
Handlebars: Unbranded (as far as I can tell)

Anyone know anything about this!

Thanks so much and safe riding!

Chaso

:D
I had 2 friends who wanted the CW & both wouldn't take NO for an answer
So the magic figure was $10K
It's not really for sale ,but I would take offers of $7K-$8K

That might be good for the traffic these days -haha.

It must have been fun riding that around a velodrome. Is it Australian built? Thanks for showing it.

I use it pretty much purely for motorpacing. Road and track. It has the fuel tank under your feet so its nicely balanced. Made in Taiwan. Daelim.

Thanks Derney Driver. Ive never actually studied one before. I presume you sit right back on the saddle and very upright to improve the drafting for the following rider. Thanks for showing us as it is a well though-out motorcycle.

Very nice. I do like a bike setup with barend shifters. I wonder how effective those shorty mudguards really are?
