I see your reference to Pete Corbin being a custom bike builder. I recently picked up a steel framed Pete Corbin from my local Op Shop for $5. It has Mavic MA2 wheels and Campag front and rear derailleurs. The bike is very light and has some quality about it. I am in the process of restoring it and would love to know a little more of it's history. Google is almost silent on Pete Corbin. Is there any information you could give me about him and his bikes? Thanks.

As far as I can tell it is a custom build by Pete Corbin from Sydney. Forgot to weigh the forks - sorry. They are also 531 Tandem tubing. The previous owner reckons that it was 1996 however the 126mm rear spacing and the top of BB cable guides suggest otherwise to me. Possibly NOS at the time.

Apologies if I have posted in the wrong thread, I am new to forums and only acme across this from a Google search. I am happy report that, based in some advice from some Facebook retro groups, I have met witn Kerry Hopkins, who, it turns out, is the original builder of the frame. He built frames for Pete Corbin, who had a shop over Sutherland way, in the 80's and 90's. I am meeting again witn Kerry next week to look at the bike and work out some replacement parts. I am. Era exvited to have met the builder and am very happy that I will be able to restore the bike, and know some of its history.

Size is perfect Quang - basically the same as my shogun. 54 was the top tube - you said 53 centre to centre, I just checked & it is probably 53.5.

Seat tube I measured 52 cm centre to top - you measured 50 cm centre to centre, so same same.

^ How's the fit? My DA AX seatpost doesn't fit all that great in the Tange seat tube - eg; gaps all around. I had to stuff some cut up inner tube in there and tighten the bejesus out of the grub screw...also impressed you have a clamp set up.

Seems to fit well, but the real test will be when I get it built up & some weight on the seat. I thought you might be interested in the aero, & will start a new thread when I have some photos.

There's a few different aero seatpost shapes around. Columbus Air with its own Columbus seatpost, then Tange Aerodynamics with three different shapes(round, and two different ovals).

This is called the E type.


This is the sharper oval shape called the C type.

Velobase lists the B-type (SP-7310), C-type (SP-7320) and E-type (SP-7322), so where is the A-type? And how did it differ from the B-type which looks round to me (despite the catalogue scan saying it was 'semi-oval'.)

I know Velobase isn't without its errors, but even if the B-type listed is actually the A-type, that still begs the question what was the B-type? In other words, there are three known types, but four in the catalogue, where is the fourth?

I also know catalogues differed from actual production, so maybe they just canned the semi-oval job and called the round seatpost the B-type.

We seem to be drifting away from frame weights.

As you say Velobase is good, its not god. Looking at the catalogue photo of the 3 posts, I see standard round with fluting, round insertion with aero top and oval insertion with round top. I haven't seen a 7300 standard round seat tube with or without fluting. The way I read it is

• 7300 A-type - standard round seat post - ie round all the way
• 7310 B-type - round insertion, semi oval aero top
• 7320 C-type - tear drop insertion, round top
• 7322 E-type - oval insertion, round top

Hi Folks,
Im trying to get infomation on my fathers Speedwell track frame and fork from his youth, i was told it was a 1938 speedwell gold cup track bike.
I read a few years back that all gold cups had serials starting with a G, mine being G28285.
Overall weight of forks and frame are 2770g including lower steering cups on forks.

Well that's interesting. My Mittiga frame which is bigger weighs 2.09gm.

Yeah that does seem unusual, to have a larger frame in the same tube set to weight that much less. I wonder if there is a measurement error involved or perhaps some (or all) of the BB included in the other measurement. (Or is it possible that just the headset cups could make that much difference?)

Still, 2.09 kg seems pretty good for a "Hi Ten" frame, a lot lighter than my crmo repco superlite frame. That's going to come in well under 3.0 kg with any half decent fork.

You got me thinking and I went back a reweighed with a better scale and you are spot on - 2050gms for the frame.

Interestingly, your colour scheme is the exact opposite of the one I have. Mine's white where yours is black and visa versa. Same decals though.
