Postby freshpatents » Mon Jul 27, 2015 8:02 pm

Hi,
If anyone has a Paris Rensch bike either Galibier or Tour de France model, could you put up some pics please?

Also if you happen to have this book and want to sell it please PM me.
Thanks

Yep looked there but if you look closely there are only about six bikes or frames that are not Galibiers and those are the images I'm really after...

Hi Clydesdale Scot, I have read the Classic Lightweights articles and seen the LFGSS bike, which is a nice one. I'm not a member of the V-CC but interested in the book Alvin Smith has published under their umbrella.I'll have more of a dig in the links you sent. Thanks for those.
I recently acquired a Paris TDF frameset based on the serial number it would be made in 1948. I'm trying to establish whether the paint job is in fact 67 years old or a respray done in the 1970's.

that one ^ is the Galibier

V-CC membership might be worth considering. It allows you access to the Marque Enthusiasts
It also allows you access to back issues of The Boneshaker and News and Views.
please note they are not Marque Experts. There has been a lively discussion recently on the role of the ME's and attempts to develop a more even approach.
I can order the book you are after if you want as I joined when I bought the Hobbs.

Any photos of the frame?

Hi, You've probably already followed Clydedale Scot's link to my TdF thread on Bike Forums and might have clicked on one of the photos and seen this album of photos of my frame on Flickr, but in case you haven't...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/22983673@ ... 8979793445

This my frame (I say 'frame' as I've just been too busy to build it up):

All the graphics are stencilled on with the exception of the single decal on the seat tube. Nick Tithecott at H Lloyd Cycles has the proper varnish slide decals, repros made up in the 1980s, apparently. The one on my frame is from him. IMO Nick is one of the 'greats' in the vintage cycling world.

I have the artwork for the stencilling on my frame. If you would like me to send it to you, send me a PM.

I can't say of your paint is original or not. PARIS frames were known for their striking paint schemes - I was rather shocked when I realised that far from everything being dull in the late 1940s there were actually these paint schemes - and such is the unusualness of yours I would say it was certainly possible. You might get an indication from taking the steerer out of the head tube and looking for overspray there, if you haven't already done that.

Otherwise, you have a very nice frame there. It looks identical to mine. You are very fortunate that it has its original seat tube clip. They're almost impossible to find and very expensive when they do appear for sale, even with all the chrome gone. They're chrome plated bronze, I believe.

Oh, and all the box lining was done by hand by Argos Racing Cycles, according to the original, which along with the stencils were still visible on the frame before they painted it. They matched the colours of everything except the colour fades of the stencilling. There were only the outlines of the stencils left, no colour, so we talked about it and I chose the blue-red fade.

Here you go, thought I'd try and get the pics to work. Beautiful frames guys.

Interesting that the seatpost collar used on the bike is exactly the same as the one that Viscount used on the Dura Ace equipped Super Bike that I have.

Hi, no progress on that one as working on other bikes in the build line before the Paris. I've made progress on the parts front with Williams cranks and chain rings that are period correct obtained along with a few other parts. As it is now confirmed as built late 1947, I'm in no rush to build it up incorrectly, but working on getting all the right parts

Alvin Smiths book is available again AFAIK.

I have two Tour de France frames, both are the bilaminated frames.
The earlier one of the pair, with candy red paint....

...and the later one, in a really vivid orange...

If you need any more detailed shots I can probably help.

Fantastic. Thanks for following up on this post. Please PM me as I'd like high resolution images of all the decals on both your bikes and might be best if you just emailed me them rather than bog down this thread.
Thanks again

I saw an old post about your Paris bike. Did you ever obtain the Alvin Smith book that you were looking for?
I should be able to obtain a copy if you wish.
