What is the brand and year of this oldie?
Frame, women's:
Handlebar position corrected to upright:
On the seat tube cluster/saddle pin lug is probably the frame number "K 4 367", maybe showing date, company/maker and the 367th bike:
Bike tubes have red patterns with white lines, possibly being the brand of bike:
Blue lugs, with hints of patches of green overcoat or undercoat:
Some thin white lines on blue and red areas.
Was all that to imitate the Australian flag colours?
No head badge showing.
Head tube is red near the top end.
And is blue at the lower end, with the remains of a square white fine outline:
Rims blue with red narrow stripe along nipples:
Seat stay tubes are bolted, not welded:
Rear brake only, the 'Philco' brand of 'Central Pull':
Bottom bracket weld welt marking "P5" or "PS":
Tyre is in good condition, with the marking "OLYMPIC GRAND PRIX":
Tyre also says "MADE IN AUSTRALIA", "28 x 1 3/8" and "INFLATE HARD".
28 x 1/38 etc inscribed on rear rim near valve hole.
Brass nipples.
Rear tyre inner tube is inflated ok and is black and marked in white letters "SPARTAN OLYMPIC 28 X 1 3/8 X 1 1/4.
Front tyre inner tube is red, and both it and its tyre are severely deteriorated.
Seat tube is the old style ie 'L' shaped:
Single speed.
Mudguard on back wheel, maybe black.
On the tubes, I have discovered the blue, and some parts of red by using a dry stainless steel wool scourer, which removed a lot of the surface rust and dirt etc.
There seems to be a very small bit of chrome on the rear hub, showing that the bike might have been made after chrome's debut in 1928.
I love the patina and character of the faded paint colours, and want to keep it that way.
But should I strip the paint and repaint to the original probably bright blue and red and white?
Is their any product or method to brighten the existing paint, apart from a scourer, eg vinegar etc?
And a seat/saddle to suit its age would be good.
I am keen to ride it, etc.

'50's bike (earlier rather than later) , frame number might give a hint to the maker.... oh and the handle bars are on upside down.
Ozpushies! for ALL Australian made bikes.

I will correct the handlebar, and shoot and upload/post a pic of it.
By "earlier", do you mean early not late 1950's?
What shows to you that it is a 1950's?

can you have a close look at the chainring and the crank arms and see if there are any fine stampings evident.
If present they will be on the inner faces.
It might help if you disclosed where you acquired the bike, as there may be regional makers.
For photographs, it is best to take them on a cloudy day, without a flash, and concentrate on getting the part in focus, rather than the background.

yep
What shows to you that it is a 1950's?
really its the "vibe" , paint style, fittings, but the head lug style is not known to be around pre WW2
Re/white/blue was a popular combo around the time of Queen Elizabeth's coronation in '53 that may or may not help with dating.

There are no stampings on the chrome chain ring, apart from the "44" teeth marked on the inside:Clydesdale Scot wrote:can you have a close look at the chainring and the crank arms and see if there are any fine stampings evident.

No markings seen on the now mostly scraped clean cranks.
Thanks for your advice, now the cranks are much cleaner, and exposing the hidden mostly good condition chrome.
Sydney bike.
Yes, indirect/diffused light from a cloudy day or opaque shade or gentle shade helps, with the flash off.
Zooming in seems to help a little bit with small details in very close up/macro shots.

Try taking the shot from a bit further back and giving the focus motor a chance to actually get something in focus. You can upload the full sized picture or crop the important part of the photo so it comes up bigger.

Only brand i've seem stamping K as their serial number previously is Australs made in NSW.
Even the colour scheme/line work is a bit similar to 30's models of Malvern Star/Austral.
Lack of Maps or Stars indicates it's not one of those brands of course.
