Having trouble identifying this frame. Help!

Postby noid108 » Mon Mar 19, 2018 9:56 pm

Hi everyone, hoping you may be able to help me out I picked this bike up recently but am having trouble identifying it, it has Gazelle decals but I know a lot of the gazelles around this era had pantographing and this has none. It is light so I know it"s decent tubing, came with a Shimano 600 6207 groupset, sr flutes post, modolo bars, and araya rims. The only marks on the frame are Gipiemme stamps on the fork and rear dropouts and 55E stamped on the bottom bracket and fork steerer. Here are some photos I have uploaded to flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/140815440 ... 2884458531 I really want to do this one up so it would be great if I was able to get the manufacturer so I can do it right.
Thanks
Dion

Well, it's a good quality frame with investment cast rear bridges, nice lugs and cleanly built. From the 80's maybe?
Could well be a Gazelle, I've seen them with that style of rear brake bridge but... The decals look a bit off and no headbadge or chainstay panto's. :?
To me it looks like a Technocrat frame from Italy with Gazelle decals which is not knocking it at all, Technocrat made/make nice frames. Remember also that Gazelle is a BIG manufacturer, like Raleigh say, so it was not unknown for them to 'buy in' batches of frames to fill a production gap (I know they bought-in from Raleigh UK back in the day) So this might be a Gazelle labelled Technocrat from a batch bought-in from Italy? It would have had the stick-on badge which often parted company with the frame.
Or.. could be a Gazelle of a model I never saw - they made a lot of bikes of various models.
Or.. could be a ringer with Gazelle transfers
Whatever, a very nice frame - if you get bored with it let me know :P

Thanks for the info, after doing some research on the Tecnotrat frames you're spot on I think. The only pic I have been able to find with that brake bridge was a Saronni so I think I might go that way, any ideas on tubing? I know they used Falck, Oria and Columbus I'm just not sure what the Saronni's usually were.

^ Columbus Aelle typically - I'm sure there were exceptions.
